Tidbits - 8/20/04

Well, it's over. The Oprah trial is done. The defendant guilty. Oprah speaks to the media, but all the details will be given on her show.

Was Oprah's jury duty a publicity stunt for her aging show? Did she ask to be on a jury? I wonder if the defendant will be on the show?

Now that the Oprah Trial is over, the news media in Chicago have nothing to report on except crumbling Wrigley Field and the Olympics.

Now for some interesting items.

+Tom Brokaw is upset. He's upset about not being chosen as on the moderators for the presidential and vice-presidential debates.

Apparently the group selecting the moderators thought that Brokaw was "unsuitable" and may "overshadow" the events. If you watched his performance on the primary debates you would have understood their reasoning. In all cases Brokaw wanted to overshadow the questions and answers with his own commentary.

Nevetheless, Brokaw is writing and e-mailing anybody and everybody saying he is THE choice.

C'mon Tom, you were not selected because your liberal bias is apparent to everyone since the start of the war in Iraq. You are anti-Bush and pro-Kerry and that is not what the debates are supposed to be about.

Maybe you could retire a little earlier, like today.

+Chris Matthews is not known to be subtle or interesting. His ambush techniques and liberal bias are legendary. Last night, however, he went a little to far in his interview with Michelle Malkin.

Originally scheduled to talk about her book, Matthews turned the interview into a shouting match (him doing most of the shouting) about the Swift Boat veterans.

In the interview, Matthews admitted that he had not read the book only excerpt. I am sure that these excerpts were filtered by his producers.

Malkin, on loan from Fox for the interview, tried to answer Matthews ridiculous questions, but in true Assball style Matthews interrupted and would not let Malkin answer. It was a poor performance by Matthews and one that should have NBC execs concerned. Maybe this is why MSNBC and CNBC are the lowest rated cable networks.

+There is a developing story on the Drudge Report about Sen. John Kerry "demanding" that the book Unfit for Command be banned.

BANNING BOOKS? Perhaps, MoveOn.org and George Soros have compared the wrong candidate to Hitler's Germany.

More later.
