Tidbits - 8/18/04

The biggest news in Chicago is till Oprah on the jury.

Stories now include courtroom sketches of Oprah taking notes, what the jury ate, and attempted interviews with other jurors (illegal) and attorneys for both sides (no comment).

There must be other news in Chicago or is this a PR effort on the part of Oprah?

Now for some interesting items.

+In addition to making movies of his exploits in Vietnam, John Kerry also kept a journal of his experience. I guess this was the script to go with the film.

It appears now that a passage in his journal contradicts statements made by the senator over the years. In the journal, Kerry recounts that he "had not been shot at yet" nine days AFTER his first Purple Heart incident.

Since this had not been noticed before, it appears that Kerry's staff, biographers, and supporters are not reading his own words.

+John Kerry will speak before the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) convention today in Cincinnati.

VFW officials have long memories. They recall Kerry's criticism of the organization as a "paramilitary, pro-war" group. This was, of course, during Kerry's days as an anti-war activist. Although he never joined the organization, Kerry will probably want to embrace the VFW as his comrades.

More later.
