The Big Story

The biggest news story in Chicago over the weekend and today has been self-proclaimed, talk show diva, Oprah Winfrey, upcoming stint on jury duty.

Winfrey joined 300 other "normal" people at the Chicago Criminal Courts Building for possible assignment on a jury.

So what?

All the local news outlets are making this a big deal and media circus. Must be no other news in Chicago these days.

One report says that this has been the first time Winfrey has been on a jury. I wonder how many times Winfrey had an excuse not to serve before this time.

The media also seems to be making a big deal out of the $17.90 she will receive. Winfrey, a multi-millionaire, probably has no use for the cash and will still receive her millions for missing a day of work. There are other members of the jury pool who must use the $17.90 to partially replace the loss wages for each day of jury duty. If it is a long trial, some jurors may eventually lose their job.

These facts seem to be loss on Winfrey and the Chicago media.

Find some real news.
