Tidbits - 8/16/04

With news on Hurricane Charley and the Olympics it was a slow news weekend.

I did, however, see portions of Meet the Press yesterday and substitute host, Andrea Mitchell. It is amazing what she gets away with. Tossing softball questions to Democrats and snide comments and subtle insults to Republicans. Ms Mitchell is one of the most partisan "reporters" at NBC. She should always have her reporting labeled as "commentary."

Now for some interesting items.

+A CBO report released Friday showed that the to 20% of taxpayers pay 82% of the taxes. This is up from 78% four years ago. The CBO report noted that this was largely due to the Bush tax cuts.

Unfortunately, this was not the way it was reported by the liberal anti-tax cut media.

+There will not be much reporting about the Olympics in this blog.

It is, however, already evident that the US Men's Basketball and Women's Gymnastics teams are not up to the pressure.

To me it is no surprise that the US Men's Basketball team is not up to the level of play necessary. The team is full of NBS"stars" which means it is full of NBS "egos." These guys cannot play together because there's no money in it. They can't play because they may have to work a little to win. Coach Larry Brown is the wrong choice because he can not lead or force the team to follow his instructions. If they medal at all, it will be a surprise.

The Women's Gymnastics team just choked. They are not up for the pressure or level of competition. It is time for the Carollys to go away.

One note on the Men's Gymnastics team. They need to stop whining about the rule changes. The new rules did not prevent the men from competing. The lack of preparation and inability to perform at an Olympic level did.

This will probably be the last item about the Olympics.
