Tidbits - 10/15/04

I will be posting my commentary on the remarks made by Senator Kerry and Elizabeth Edwards shortly.

Now here are some interesting items.

+The Chairman of the FCC, Michael Powell, says that there is no reason to stop Sinclair Broadcasting from airing a documentary that is perceived by Democrats and the Kerry campaign as anti-Kerry.

Powell said, "I don't know of any precedent in which the commission could do that." Powell understood the concerns of the senator, but said that before a complaint can be filed about a program, the program has to air. Do to otherwise would be "prior restraint" and censorship of political speech bit protected by the First Amendment.

Powell has made the correct decision in this case.

Of course, the has not been any complaints about Michael Moore showing his propaganda film on Pay-per-view November 1st or the continued showing of this week's episode of Frontline on PBS. This week's Frontline is a documentary on the upcoming election which is, primarily, pro-Kerry.

Note, PBS receives Federal funds through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Under Federal Law, programs on PBS are supposed to be balanced. This episode of Frontline and every program produced by Bill Moyers fail that test.

+Remember Senator Mark Dayton (D-MN)? He is the Minnesota Senator who closed his Washington office due to possible terrorists threats.

Now the Senator is underfire from his constiuents.
