Items From the Kerry Spot on National Review Online

A RARE KUDOS TO MICHAEL MOORE

I read this on Josh Marshall's Talking Points Memo and my jaw dropped.

According to Steve Clemons, at a speech over the weekend at the University of Central Arkansas, Michael Moore said that he had been offered the 'Killian memos' during his work on Fahrenheit 9/11, but passed on them, considering them unreliable.
The demagogic lefty heavyweight has higher standards than I thought. Michael Moore, 1; Dan Rather, 0.

Does this story just sound a bit too convenient? Does the DVD of Moore's "fiction" come out tomorrow?

HEY - CHENEY AND EDWARDS ARE TOMORROW

With all the focus on Bush and Kerry, it's easy to forget that Cheney and Edwards go toe-to-toe tomorrow night.

On paper, Edwards should have some advantages - he's smooth, telegenic, believes he's playing the hero in a John Grisham novel. But that kind of raises the question... where the heck has this guy been? He's been almost invisible on the trail since he was picked. Can you remember anything Edwards has said or done on the trail since he began running as Kerry's veep choice? The Wendy's thing, maybe. The horrible late-night rally after Bush's speech at the convention. But he's been out of the news, visiting longshot states (South Carolina) or holding up what ought to be safe territory (New Jersey).

For that matter, think back to the Democratic convention - do you remember anything about his speech?

Was there anything memorable about that? I have a vague recollection of him describing a mom at a table whose husband is in Iraq and who has a lot of bills to pay. And he's trying to get the crowd to chant, "Hope is on the way."

Does John Edwards not leave much of an impression other than his appearance?

The outcome of this debate may be a "no brainer." If Cheney takes on Edwards fro not just his record in the Senate but his reputation as a trial lawyer and the affects that has on the price of health care, it will be a landslide.

Is there any reason why no one has talked about Edward service record? He is old enough to have served. If he has none, Kerry's arguments about the importance of service as a qualification for President goes away.

It should be fun.

BUSH TARGETS THE "THINKING MOM" DEMOGRAPHIC

Bush's new ad, entitled, "Thinking Mom":

Mom Voiceover: 5:30, I need to get groceries... I'm gonna be late.
Radio Voiceover: John Kerry and the liberals in Congress have voted to raise gas taxes 10 times.

Mom Voiceover: 10 times... gas prices are high enough already.

Radio Voiceover: They voted to raise taxes on senior social security benefits and raise taxes on middle class parents 18 times...

No relief there from the marriage penalty...

Mom Voiceover: More taxes because I'm married... what were they thinking?

Radio Voiceover: 350 times... Higher taxes from the liberals in Congress and John Kerry.

President Bush: I'm George W. Bush and I approve this message.

I love the line, "more taxes because I'm married - what were they thinking?"
