Evening Update - 1.4/.05

William Kennedy Smith, nephew of the late President John Kennedy, has dodged another bullet. Well, another chance to be convicted of sexual assault.

A civil suit filed by former personal assistant Audra Soulias was dismissed today in Chicago. The judge in the case said that the allegations of emotional distress were not sustained by the evidence.

Soulias claimed that Smith assaulted her in his Lincoln Park condo and later harassed her when Smith learned of her involvement in another sexual harassment complaint against him.

While Smith did not bother to attend today's hearing, his attorney Dan Webb felt vindicated by the decision.

Soulias' attorney Kevin O'Reilly said he will either refile the case with additional evidence or appeal the ruling.

Smith was acquitted in the early 90's of rape in a Florida case. His acquittal was due in large part ot the Kennedy name in Palm Beach County and an appearance by his uncle Ted Kennedy.

It's official, Barack Obama, a little known state senator from Illinois, is now the junior US Senator from Illinois. Obama was sworn in with several news members of the Senate in ceremonies earlier today.

Chicago news media are treating the very liberal senator like a rock star. There are countless inane interviews with Obama with little substance.

There is, however, an Obama secret. While proud of his African-American background, Obama is of mix races. Her never, including today, mentions his white mother as contributing to his upbrining. In his youth Obama was a drug user and, possible, drug dealer on the South Side of Chicago.

One of the biggest reasons for the Obama victory in November will soon be out of a job.

Judy Baar Topinka will end her term as the Chairman of the Illinois GOP at the end of the month. Topinka is largely responsible for the embarrassing Senatorial defeat. It was Topinka who did not support original Senate candidate, Jack Ryan, after the elite media convinced an activist California judge to open "sealed" divorce papers. Topinka failed to support Ryan and fight the allegations.

Topinka and the rest of the GOP leadership were unable to find a suitable candidate top replace Ryan and tried to recruit former Bears Coach Mike Ditka to run. Ditka declined saying he would not answer to the whims of Topinka. Topinka finally found the perfect patsy in conservative talk show host Alan Keyes.

After selecting Keyes, Topinka and the rest of the GOP turned their n=back on Keyes and allowed him to run a virtually unsupported campaign.

Now, the Illinois GOP is seeking a new leader. It is unlikely to find anyone willing to clean up Topinka's mess. The Illinois GOP is unlikely to win any statewide race for decades and is an embarrassment nationally. To bad the Party of Lincoln is more like the Gang That Could Not Shot Straight. That is not the Chicago way.
