Afternoon Update - 1/3/05

There has been several important news items since this morning's Briefing. So, I have compiled several of them for your reading.

John Kerry is up to his old rhetoric again. It what may be the biggest "flip-flop" of all, Kerry says in new book, "I did not lose the election. We just didn't win."

Senator, you lost because of comments like that and you had no plan.

MSNBC - 'I'm Going to Learn'

There is "some" movement on the Rathergate front.

CBS News President Andrew Heyward and Washington bureau chief Janet Leissner recently met with White House Communicators Director Dan Bartlett to repair the chilly relations between CBS News and the White House.

CBS News has become "persona No gratis" with the White House sine the 60 Minutes report by soon to retire anchor Dan Rather on the President's National Guard Service.

Rather continues to stand by the story, but is "unsure" of the documents used in the report authenticity.

This could mean that Heyward will not be moved or terminated as a result of the internal investigation. Or it could mean that the report will whitewash the whole event and Heyward is trying to warm up the White House staff before cries of cover-up by CBS officials.

Whatever the motive, the report is yet to be released, CBS News continues to lack credibility on any reporting regarding the White House or President Bush.
Broadcasting & Cable - Mr. Heyward Goes to Washington

After a year of scandal, UN Secretary General (and skiing aficionado) Kofi Anna is shaking up the management structure of the UN. This includes a new chief-of-staff who will play a key role in managing the media.

It is probably to late. Annan is seen as the primary obstruction to any objective investigation in to the now infamous Oil For Food debacle.

During a press conference Annan said, This is the first of a series of changes." Any change that does not include Annan's removal or resignation will continue to hurt the beleaguered world organixation.
After "horrible" year, Annan shakes up top UN staff

President George W. Bush announced a team to lead priovate fund-raising erfforts in the US. The team members are familiar to all Americans, President George HW Bush, the President's father, and former President Bill Clinton.

This will be interesting to watch. CLinton is az good fund-raisier, but what are his motives? Will this be his first salvo to become the next Secretary General of the Uniuted Nations or will this be a duel fund-raising drive? One for the tsunami victims and another for Hillary's run for the WHite House in '08?

Bush's father, no slacker in fund-raising, will do a outstanding job for thsis humanitarian cayuse.
