As thousands of the faithful gather in St. Peter's Square, Pope John Paul II lies inside the Vatican in very grave condition.
Medical reports from the Vatican say that the Pope's condition is worsening. His breathing has become shallow and there is cardio-circulatory and renal insuffiency.
Fox News and some Italian news services say that the Pope has lost consciousness
Earlier in the day reports say he was conscious and lucid talking with aides and had one of the read biblical passages on the Passion of Christ.
